West Wing Aviation Mail Runs

Join us for a memorable flight over some of the most spectacular country on earth. We fly to most areas of the Cape and Western Queensland, delivering goods and passengers to remote locations. While priority is given to the rural residents, their mail and freight, we are happy to take visitors on these when seats are available. All our aircraft are flown by highly experienced pilots. Advance bookings are advisable.
The maps show major stops on our air mail services. Each service stops for a few minutes at 7 to 20 stations. Sometimes passengers will be invited for a yarn and a cuppa – a great way to experience this unique part of Australia.
Please bring your food and drinks for the day.

Scheduled Route’s way points


Mt Isa to Gregory Downs - Over-fly section of the Gregory river. Gregory is the closest township to century mine, and the home of the Gregory races and canoe race.
Gregory River to LawnHill - Lawnhill is the site of Adel’s grove, popular holiday retreat. Several stations also collect their mail from here.
Lawnhill to Herbert vale - Family run cattle grazing property, about 3500acres.
HerbertVale to Bowthorn - Privately run cattle breeding station since the 50’s, by the McGuiness family. Operator of Kingfisher Lodge Camp.
Bowthorn to Hellsgate - Over-fly Nicholson river and Kingfisher camp. Hellsgate roadhoadhouse on the road from Doomadgee through to Borolloola and Daly Waters. Refreshments available.
Hellsgate to Burketown - Closest destination to the sea! Toilets as Required.
Burketown to Augustus Downs - WW2 landing strip, used for Maintenance of bombers. Cattle grazing since early 1900’s.
Augustus to Lorraine Stn - 600 000 Acres with around 37 000 head of cattle. Quite a nice station.
Lorraine to Wondoola - 20–25000 head of Brahman cross cattle. Fertile grounds serviced each wet season by blacksoil flooding. Afternoon tea may be available on request.
Wondoola to Iffley - One Million Acres! Began in 1863 by "Earl", and 1 of only 25 "brands" registered since 1885.
Iffley to Mt Isa - Overfly Earl’s camp waterhole and Mt Cuthbert mine. A nice long, high and smooth leg to finish the day.
Western Mail Runs
Scheduled Route’s way points


The Western mail run occurs each and every Friday. It Departs Mt Isa at 8:50 am and returns at around 1:00pm.
Mount Isa to Barkly Downs - Owned by Stanbroke Pas. Co. (which is owned by BHP) Santa-Gertrudis breeding. 35000 head of cattle.
Barkly to Austral Downs - 1.3 million acres of cattle grazing (18-22000 head). Over 100 years as a property, employing about 16 staff.
Austral to Lake Nash - Lake Nash station, 20 000 Head of breeding calves and cattle. This leg follows the Georgina river, with various waterholes. Alpurrurulum, 5km away. Approximately 6-700 people in this indigenous community.
Lake Nash to Headingly - Approximately 2.5 million acres of grazing cattle. Bought in 1918 by Aus Agricultural Co. Around 46 000 head.
Headingly to Manners Crk - Urandangi, and Urandangi pub about 1/3 of the way out to the left. Manners Creek is another Cattle breeding property.
Manners Ck to Tobermorey - Short flight, but long drive (impassable during wet season). Started by Anderson Family (early 1900’s).Currently owned and operated privately by the McDermott family. Popular Tourist stop over (fuel/camping/souvenirs).
Channel Mail Run

Moolawatana – Located 200km north east of Leigh Creek on the tip of the Flinders Ranges, Leigh Creek is a cattle property catering for 2000 head of cattle. It measures approximately 2000 square meters. Protodone bones (Giant Wombat) were found on Leigh creek and as a single property it has the biggest dog fence running through it.
Merty Merty – A property that measures about 3000 square Kilometres and caters for 1500 head of cattle. Merty Merty has 2 main roads running through it, one, which leads from Adelaide to Moomba, and the other, which leads from NSW to Cameron’s corner.
Innamincka – Runs approximately 4000 head of cattle and measures 13 800 square kilometres. Innamincka is owned by S Kidman & Co and has approximately 6-13 employees working on the property. The cooper creek runs through Innamincka and Congie Lake national park is located 6 km from the station.
Durham Downs – A cattle station measuring 2 million Acres. Durham Downs Is in the heart of the Cooper Creek Channel Country.
Roseberth – A property catering for 10 000 head of cattle and measuring 1.2 million acres. Roseberth was built in 1876 and has been in the Morton Family for 4 generations.
Pandie Pandie – The most northerly station of the Birdsville track. Pandie Pandie measures 6500 square kilometres and the Morton Family owns it.
Clifton Hills – A cattle station that measures 7500 square miles. The Diamantina, Georgina and Cooper Rivers all run through the property.
Dulkaninna – An accredited totally organic farm that runs 2000 head of Hereford x Angus cattle. Dulkaninna is a breeding ground for both horses and Kelpies and has been in the family for 110 years.
Durrie – A property consisting of 7 000 square kilometres and runs 10 000 head of cattle.
Glengyle – Owned by S. Kidman and Co, Glengyle station caters for 10 000 head of cattle which are mustered on horse back, it measures 5 500 square kilometres and is a good tourist area because people go there to see the tree of knowledge.
Etadunna - Measures 1 million acres, it caters for 2 500 head of cattle. Etadunna used to be a Lutheran mission that the Germans started, when the cooper floods they use a punt as their form of transport.
